The Southern Agrarian
"The hero can never be a relativist." Richard M. Weaver
Michael,
You do not know me. I got you email from my wife - who has sent you some stuff from the states.
I just wanted to take a minute to let you know how much I appreciate you and your fellow Marines. I am an old Devil Dog from years ago (Vietnam 68-70, 73-75), but enough about me.
You men and women have been an inspiration to all of us back home and we are very proud of you. Do not believe what you hear or read from the media or along the chatter lines of rumor and propaganda.... the people support you and your mission. The America of 2006 is not the America of 1968 - 1975 when I served. The people of today have more backbone, we want you to succeed and are willing to take our politicians to task for not standing with you.
You and your fellow Marines are carrying out a Noble Cause – you have brought hope to the hopeless and light to the darkness. You are cracking open the door and allowing light to shine for millions who have been consumed by the darkness for too long. The door has been opened and Liberty's light will chase out the tyranny of darkness.
You and your fellow Marines (all the services) are Knight Exemplars to the World demonstrating the forthrightness and determination of the United States in building a better world and allowing Liberty's light to shine. Through your conduct and character, you have shone the world the best of America.
You and your fellow Marines have liberated the Iraqi people from the darkness, but there is still the storm that is testing the mettle of both the Iraqi and the American people. The Gail winds of the storm are blowing hard now testing that Will. Through the efforts of you and your fellow Marines (and other service men and women) you are bringing a cleansing effect to that nation.
Through you companionship (liberation and staying the course) you have provided comfort and a sense of conformity so they can build a new nation on the rubble of darkness. Through your conviction, Semper Fidelis, you have brought change – brought light to the darkness for children to grow up in a different world, for mothers to care for their children, for fathers to provide a life for his family.
Just as God does not give up on the sinner, we will not give up on the Iraqis or on your mission. The storm requires patience, kindness and forgiveness. You and your fellow Marines are the rudders in this storm.
You can count on me and millions of Americans will be your rudder at home. Though we do not know you, we love each of you, pray for you and celebrate you and your mission.
You are our Heroes – our Knight Exemplars – your purpose of God’s purpose and our purpose.
Semper Fidelis
